That Health Kick

Happy Wednesday peeps! In my last post, I briefly mentioned my recent health kick. Between clean eating (hi, almond butter) and now running 4-5 days a week, I feel really amazing. My thinking, productivity, and just overall clarity has MAJORLY improved. And it’s only been 4 weeks! Before this, I was a complete heathen.

I was a regular at Happy Hour every Friday from 5pm-2am (at least), finishing the night off with McDonald’s, Taco Bell, two slices of $2 pizza, or my former favorite, street meat (aka hot dogs) – every time.

Middle of the week? I’d cook an elaborate meal I saw in a Tasty video, head to my quarters and watch Real Housewives with a bowl of Capn’ Crunch til I fell asleep. Lol! I feel sick just typing that. What a mess.

Not sure how I got to that point because, growing up, I was pretty active. I was a dancer and a cheerleader. Once I hit college, I went to a few dance classes. Played on a handful of intramural teams. And then the ball just kinda dropped. Life happened. You get busy, you meet new people, your schedule is always filled with 20-something activities (happy hours, bar-hopping, brunch – hello) and if you have free time? You probably just want to relax.

Unfortunately, I had a really unlikely motivator to help me get into this kick (I don’t talk about it often, but I’ve been battling a food borne virus for 7 months). Given this, I really had to step up on boosting my immune system to keep myself afloat just to function. This included cutting out all sugar, salt, wheat, and dairy. And of course: adding exercise. If you know me at all, one of the most unlikeliest choices for me would have EVER been running. lol But given a new outlook on life, I figured I might as well use what God gave me – my legs! So now my favorite way to get my cardio in is doing at least half an hour on the treadmill each day, with some yoga mixed in-between.
