Of the many rules in life I choose not to follow, one of them has always been the outdated “no white after Labor Day” rule. Especially in the Winter. Once November hits, you can usually find me wearing a lot of red, a good plaid, obnoxious amounts of faux fur despite being a Florida resident, and of course: my winter whites. From my office to my bedroom, all of my accessories fit in the same white and gold palette. It’s kind of like my calling card. So when I found this sequined skirt at one of my favorite boutiques around holiday time, I fell in love with it immediately. Kind of like how you see a puppy, or 20, at a pet store and want to take them all home. And let’s review the facts: it’s white and gold. It basically screamed at me to buy it and add it to the family.
It’s definitely a statement piece that can go from day to night if done right.
Now sequins in the daytime I would often label as ill-advised. But again, in this case, we can break the rules. Since this skirt has a lot going on, I paired it with a super basic gray cropped tee, and one of my favorite long necklaces to create some contrast with length. Usually if I’m wearing a mini skirt, you’ll find me in long sleeves and/or a pair of boots. But because it was 80 degrees out in December, I paired it with this fringed statement necklace and my go-to neutral crossbody bag.
Last, and certainly not least- lace up everything was all the rage in 2016. I topped off this look with my favorite lace-up nude heels that can be dressed up or dressed down. These diddies are also super comfortable and have survived not only two weddings, but an average workday that includes a really treacherous walk through a set of bushes to buy lunch at the Publix behind my office.
